The Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences annually conducts numerous field excavations both in Russia and abroad. Institute expeditions have become large-scale scientific forums gathering researchers from all over Russia and colleagues from foreign archaeological centres. These international sites also attract professionals with expertise in other fields; natural science methods are becoming more and more significant in archaeology.
The all-Russian conference with international participation «Archaeological research in Russia: new materials and interpretations» will reflect on the finds and discoveries of 2019, and will be held in Moscow on March 2–3, 2020 at the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences at: 19, Dmitriy Ulyanov Street. With support of RFFR, projec 20-09-20020.
On the first day of the conference we will discuss the results of significant fieldwork. Speakers will talk about excavations in the Moscow Kremlin, on the territory of the ancient city of Fanagoria, the fourth stronghold of Sevastopol, as well as on the study of the Upper Paleolithic monuments in South-East Kazakhstan.
The second day of the conference will reflect on the use of natural science methods in archaeology. The speakers will talk about history of metallurgy and handcraft production, anthropology, along with the problems of food and nutrition reconstruction. The full conference program will be published in the second half of February.
